FROM DEGRASSI TO THE BALL What do you get when you blend the mouth watering ingredients of CTV’s DEGRASSI, THE NEXT GENERATION with a pinch of KIDS’ CBC-TV, throw in a dash of WE WILL ROCK YOU, and stir with a zesty STRATFORD hambone? Simply the lightest, frothiest, funniest theatrical soufflé that ever rose above the well tread boards of Toronto’s Elgin Theatre: Ross Petty’s 13th annual fractured fairy tale, CINDERELLA, THE SILLYLICIOUS FAMILY MUSICAL, which plays November 28, 2008 through January 4, 2009. Petty has surfaced from under his crinolines as Cindy’s Evil Step Mother, to announce that two young stars of DEGRASSI will play the beautiful pumpkin-obsessed heroine and her royal paramour. Eighteen year old Paula Brancati, going into her 2nd season as Jane Vaughan on DEGRASSI, will share the stage with DEGRASSI heart-throb Jake Epstein, who starred as Craig Manning for five years. A beloved early morning TV icon who has allowed Canadian Moms to catch their breath every weekday morning for the past 14 years, will play the role of the Fairy Godmother. Patty Sullivan hosted TVO Kids for eight years, and for the past six years has been energetically entertaining pre-schoolers on CBC KIDS. The Globe and Mail called Patty the natural successor to the wonderful “Mr. Dressup” Ernie Coombs. Adam Brazier will soon re-open in WE WILL ROCK YOU at the Panasonic Theatre after having rocked Toronto in the ROCKY HORROR SHOW at Canstage, and happily returns to wreak havoc as one of the Evil Step Sisters in his 3rd Ross Petty production, having played the Prince in 2003’s CINDERELLA, and the title role of ALADDIN in 2004. Dan Chameroy, having portrayed such overtly masculine leading roles at the Stratford Festival as Lancelot in CAMELOT and last year’s Curly in OLKAHOMA, has also been convinced to lay off the testosterone and pump up the estrogen levels as Cinderella’s other Evil StepSister. Dan returns to the Petty fold 13 years after having played the titular hero in the 1996 production of ROBIN HOOD. Also returning for his 6th Ross Petty Production is Eddie Glen, a beloved comic actor who is currently winning raves for his Stratford debut in The Music Man. This year Eddie, Petty’s “go-to sidekick” who took on two roles last year playing Smee, Hook’s right hand (!), and Nana the dog, in Peter Pan; this year will play Buttons, Cinderella’s BFF.
