Lancette Arts Journal will move to a new website sometime later this year that will reflect its own name. It will still be dedicated to the various arts—literature, art, theater, music - including opera, CDs & DVDs, and other art forms that will include an occasional film or TV program. While we have in the past concentrated on Canadian content, we are now expanding our coverage outside Canada.

Lancette Arts Journal offers mostly benign criticism, but sometimes its reviews and stories lance deeper than usual. We do this not out of malicious intent, but because we feel it is required. In addition to reviews, Lancette also contains a commentary section about general arts topics or suitably related subjects. There, if needed, the lancing will definitely be deep, but not necessarily so.

To make the journal fully rounded, it also offers a section about upcoming Canadian cultural events, news in the arts and entertainment world, and two pages of web links to other web addresses of interesting sites in Canada and internationally.

The motto of Lancette is Ars est celare artem, which roughly means "true art conceals the means by which it is achieved." Ovid's maxim in his Ars Amotoria was that the best art works do not distract the audience with the artist's technique. Instead the viewer or listener should respond to a work's power. Hence, real art must appear artless.

The purpose of creating Lancette has always been to entertain readers, and to please ourselves. That is why we have remained 'ad free', something we hope our readers appreciate.

We already have placed some of our pages at www.lancette-arts-journal.ca. Our .com pages will soon move to a name similarly reflecting the new name. Please be patient with us as we slowly make changes, and forgive us inconsistencies as we go along.

Please note, Lancette offers two ways to get in touch with us:

Readers can express their thoughts in the Guest Book or

appropriate, we will print the comment under the page to
